New here? Read this. - AngelNYC - 05-03-2020

Hi, welcome to the support forum for Nexus Destinations, thank you for joining and I hope that you enjoy your stay here.

Greetings aside, the purpose of this post is to act as a quick start guide to help those of you who aren't used to this type of forum, or are new to forums in general, to navigate the forum a little easier.

It might seem complicated at first, but it really isn't, and it gets easier once you get the hang of things.

As always, the Rules and FAQ can be found in the

[Image: howtopost.png]

Before You Post.., in the "TOS" and "FAQ's" links beneath the banner, just under the "Announcements" heading in the topic index of each forum, or in my signature. You can always find my signature at the end of my first post inside a topic. The smilies point you to the rules and FAQ.

It will always look like this:

Please note that this is intended to be a quick start guide, these are just snippets of the original tutorials, to see the full tut, click the link to the topics.
---------------------
How To Post (Click here for the complete guide to posting.)
---------------------

To reply to a topic, simply click the button that says "New Reply" this will take you to the full reply page. This page has access to the smilies and the BBCodes as well.

[Image: newreply.png]

If you just want to quickly post a reply to the topic, in the same window, then you can use "Quick/Fast Reply".

[Image: quickreply.png]

Now, let's say that you decided that you want to use the Full reply window I mentioned above, all you have to do is click the "Preview Post" button and it will save your existing post in the "post preview" window and take you to the full reply screen.

This is what you'll see once you click the "Preview Post" button.

[Image: previewpostdemo.png]

As you can see, your post will be in the preview window and the full reply area. This is to demonstrate that you won't lose your post when you click the full reply button.

To post a new topic, simply click the "New Thread" button and then post as you would as if you were replying to a topic, and then scroll to the bottom and click the "Post Thread" button instead.

[Image: newthread.png]

Or to post a poll, check the box that says "I want to post a poll."

[Image: postapoll.png]

Next, click the "Post Thread" button to be taken to the Poll Options and follow the poll tutorial below.

[Image: polloptions.png]

You can find the full poll tutorial here.

Once you are finished adding your options, scroll to the bottom, and click the button at the bottom that says "Post New Poll." After that, it will submit your post and take you to the poll you just created.

Your poll should look like this.

Getting Help
-------------------------------

By now, you are already familiar with where the Rules and FAQ are, as well as how to post on this forum, but now you have questions that weren't in the FAQ or you want to test to see if your signature or other profile features show up properly.

If you have a question, or need help, do NOT pm the staff, unless it involves a private matter. Otherwise, you should post it in  Support Center (<= click.)

This is the best and fastest way to get help. The reason why I am asking you to post in the support section, as opposed to pming a staff member or other member, is because Support Center is the first area the staff checks when we log in, and so, any new post in this area is guaranteed a response.

The members here are very helpful, and can, and have provided support for new members such as yourself, after all, they were new once as well and have no problem with helping when they can. Often times, they will be on at the time a support question was asked and they will answer it and if there are no further questions, and the asker is satisfied with the response, then we will lock the topic.

Not only that, but the staff here might be otherwise busy and because we are also on different time zones we may not be on when you are, and vice versa. Also, our inboxes are practically full as it is and so, if you pm us, it is very likely that we won't see it until too late, if, at all and it may get lost amongst the pms we already have. I have nearly 1,500 pms myself.

We don't want that to happen to you and want you to get the best and fastest help possible and so, the best way for that to happen is if you post in the support area.

---------------
Testing
---------------

To protect the privacy of our users, profile viewing has been disabled. That said, If you wish to test your signature or other profile elements, you can post a test topic in the Nexus Labs.

This is pretty much where all testing goes, whether it is for profile features, or new BBCodes that we may add from time to time.

------------------
Navigation
------------------

So, we've already covered the basics of where to find the rules and FAQ, posting, how to get help and testing things. Now you are ready to start posting but don't know how to navigate the forum.

The best way to navigate the forum is by looking at the forum index and reading the descriptions of each area. They will tell you exactly what you need to know about the area as well as the areas within them. You can always get back to the forum index by clicking on the banner or by clicking "Nexus Destinations" in the navigation tree beneath the shoutbox and above the topic buttons.

[Image: navigation.png]

The navigation tree will be vary depending on the area you are in.

For example, this is what the navigation tree looks like for this area.

"Nexus Destinations SupportCommunity ServicesND CommunityNews & Updates"

The "Nexus Destinations Support" link will always take you to the forum index.

The names of each area might give you an indication, but to be sure, you should always read the descriptions, which will always be located beneath the section's name and you can always read the topics posted within them to give you an idea of what that section is about as well.

All sections are grouped together by subject, and so, any areas within a parent forum will be somewhat related to it.

[Image: nexusloungesm.png~original]

For example, the area in the screenshot above is named "Nexus Lounge."

As you can see, it is a category, and plays host to 4 forums.. Travel Wire, Grand Central Terminal, Wish You Were Here, and Shooting The Breeze. Each of these areas are related to travel and general discussion, while also being their very own subject.

Travel Wire is the area that is related to travel news. RSS feeds containing this information are posted by Luna. Our Welcome/RSS Bot.

Grand Central Terminal is the area that is related to all travel-related discussions.

Wish You Were Here is the area where you can post pictures and video of places you've been or would like to go someday.

Shooting The Breeze.. is the general discussion area, this place is for topics that don't fit in the other areas.

As you can see, there are quite a few areas here that are not only parent forums, but also ones that contain RSS news as well. You are more than welcome to respond to the RSS topics you find interesting, the other members already do, and when it is time to clear them out, any RSS topics that have replies, will be saved, while others without them will be deleted.

You will always be able to see the sub-forums listed in the main forums listing.

Acronyms You'll Find On NDS
-----------------------------

On this forum, you will often come across various acronyms that you won't exactly understand. I use them often because I don't really feel like typing out the full name of a section of this forum.

So if a member asks me in the shoutbox which forum are the rules and FAQ located, then I will say something like BYP which stands for "Before You Post."  So below I will just post the acronyms of each of the main sections here, as well as any others you may encounter.

RH = Raven Holliday
MN = Mr. Nest
BDX = BlackDevilX

---------------
NDS's Main Areas
---------------

BYP = Before You Post
This is the area where you can find the Rules and FAQ.

ND = Nexus Destinations
This is the name of the travel agency. If you see this outside of Grand Central Terminal, which is the travel section, then I am referring to the agency, and NOT North Dakota.

NDS = Nexus Destinations Support
This is the name of the forum. If you see this outside of Grand Central Terminal, then I am referring to this forum, and not pluralizing North Dakota.

NC = Nexus Community
If you see this outside of Grand Central Terminal, then, I am talking about the area, and NOT North Carolina.)

VC = Visitor Center
Only staff, Unvalidated members, and Visitors have access to it, and all posts within require approval to prevent spam.)

GCT = Grand Central Terminal
This is the travel discussion area.

WYWH = Wish You Were Here
This area is where you can post pictures and video from your trips, or travel related content in general.

STB = Shooting The Breeze..
This is the general discussion area. All non-travel, and non-agency related topics can be found here.

--------------------------------
Other Acronyms
--------------------------------

CBBT = Chesepeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel (rarely mentioned outside of GCT since that is the travel area)
HRBT = Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel
NJTP = New Jersey Turnpike
I-95, i95 or I-95 = Interstate 95 (although, the number is interchangable.)
Rte. = Route

--------------------------------
Misc. (not so nice) Acronyms
--------------------------------

AYFKM? = Are You Freaking Kidding Me?
YGBSM = You Gotta Be S--tting Me
YGBFSM = You Gotta Be Freaking S--tting Me

GTFOOHWTBS = Get The Freak Out Of Here With That Bullsh-t/B.S.
YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary

If you want to know what the other kinds of acronyms we may use around here mean, then you should see this topic.

Well, this concludes my newbies guide, and by now you should have understood the basics of getting around this forum. If you have any further questions, be sure to check the FAQ first, and if you don't find your answer, then feel free to ask in the Support Center. If you'd like to learn more about the features of this forum, then feel free to check the Help topics. Smile
